My Darling,

Well back to the lines again. It seems it took ages to get back in and physically it has been hellish. But I have had more fun, experience, adventure + novelty than I have now had in my life but am happy to get back in again! Tomorrow we arrive at Condega and thence back to Pueblo Nuevo – home. I am perfectly well and feeling fine, lost some weight but feeling much better. Outside of having had “the itch” all over my body, now entirely cured, from some poisonous plant, I have felt wonderfully well during the whole trip. In that regard, I’m pretty lucky as one of the big reasons why we were ordered back was because of the sickness caused by exposure, strain etc. We have had to move pretty slowly as we have lost one man by drowning, have one insane, five amoebic dysentery, eight dengue fever and five grippe plus nine convalescents from different things.

Am sending this in by native runner to Condega upon an arrival here. No mail for a month. At my first [?] in six weeks today – and it’s grand. Believe I was cut out for a life [sic] of luxury – not campaigns! More later when I can tell you at length how I love you and want you. My love to David, Kate, Charlie, + Charles. I love you more than anyone in the world.
Yours – and all yours
Forever
Bob"
